_MISSION AND PURPOSE
The Citizens Coal Council's mission is to inform, empower and work for and with communities affected by the mining, processing and use of coal.

- Watchdogging the coal industry and environmental government agencies that oversee mining
- Providing a forum to exchange ideas
- Serving as a vehicle for bringing issues before national policymakers
- Monitoring national regulations, policies and legal decisions
- Serving as a mutual support group among coalfield leaders
- Encouraging strategic alliances to connect citizens to broader national environmental efforts
- Continuing our work to place major coal-related issues on the national radar screen.
POSITION
The Board will support the work of the Citizens Coal Council and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by CCC's Executive Director, the Board-ED relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

FUNDRAISINGCCC Board Members will consider CCC a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that CCC can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, CCC expects to have 100% of Board members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

BOARD TERMS/PARTICIPATION
CCC Board members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment of one additional
term. Board meetings will be held quarterly, three meetings by teleconference and one in-person meeting. Committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about CCC's mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
Service of the CCC Board of Directors is without renumeration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Member’s duties.

- Extensive professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments
- A commitment to and understanding of CCC's constituents, preferably based on experience
- Savvy diplomatic skills and natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of citizens living in coal impacted communities.
- Candidates with the following professional experience are strongly encouraged to apply: accounting, nonprofit management, public policy, and marketing.

Nominations are open to individuals only (no group or organization may be nominated).
Four positions on the Board of Directors of CCC are currently open for nominations effective January 11, 2016. All nominations detailed above must be submitted by email no later than 5:00 PM ET on February 11, 2016. Nominations sent via postal mail must be postmarked by February 11, 2016.
