These newsletters tell the story of a movement in real time.
Between 1995 and 2003, Citizens Coal Council used its newsletters to share hard-won information, community voices, and on-the-ground updates from coalfield residents confronting mining’s impacts long before these issues were widely acknowledged.
Preserved here as PDFs, these archived editions offer a snapshot of that era, documenting early fights over coal mining, water protection, regulatory failures, and grassroots organizing that continues to shape our work today. They are a reminder that today’s challenges have deep roots, and that community-driven advocacy has always been at the heart of CCC’s mission.
